First impressions are important in direct mail marketing

Reaching out to consumers and engaging them in order to understand their desires is a great way to build a positive reputation in a competitive marketplace. Consumers often feel they are targeted arbitrarily, and subsequently toss any mailing or email aside. A marketer needs to find ways to appeal to these dismissive people and persuade them that the items sold or services offered are worth further investigation.
This can be done by using consumer mailing lists carefully. It's vital not to overwhelm buyers, as a plethora of content is immediate grounds for disposal. Marketers who want to appeal to buyers should treat each mailing as a way to reaffirm appreciation. Like any introduction, a first mailing should be an overview of the service, but should also contain a call to action, such as a survey or poll. This would give customers a reason to respond, and help marketers filter consumers into a lead list based on their response.
Looking at each lead as a potential long-term customer may help put the importance of client satisfaction into perspective. Having a superior customer service program in place is essential for conducting business in a market where consumers drive success.
