How to create engaging direct mail content

11/7/2011 5:31:51 PM

Standing out from the crowd is imperative when it comes to marketing efforts, and campaigns that utilize residential mailing lists are no exception.

Business2Community advises small businesses to think about what problems they can solve for potential customers. Making a direct mail marketing campaign that is useful to consumers can spur some of these individuals to make a purchase or seek a service.

According to Thomson Local, businesses should carefully research what made previous marketing campaigns successful to existing clients. With this information, a direct mail effort will likely be more appealing to consumers.

"They may want to [focus] research on discovering from their existing customer - who they are. Then concentrate on providing a better version of it," Ray Jones, head of marketing and communications at the Chartered Institute of Marketing, told the news source.

Creativity is another way to draw consumers into a business' advertising efforts. One company, ThinkShapes Mail, creates mailings outside of the traditional rectangular advertisements. While a uniquely shaped mailing is one way to go about it, any effort to be different will likely be vastly beneficial.

"When direct mail is creatively produced, personalized, and is designed as part of an integrated marketing program, response rates are typically double or triple an average campaign," says Karen O'Brien, owner of ThinkShapes.
