Some politicians have said that the country's economic recovery lies is the success of Main Street. While this opinion and the best courses of action for supporting these ventures have been widely debated, those who believe in the strength of small business recently received some welcome news.
It appears that many small businesses across the country are creating jobs and hiring again. In some regions, these companies are actually dominating the job growth landscape. It is particularly heartening to know that community-based businesses, known to consumers through direct mailing lists, phone calls, sponsorships and other interactions, are helping their neighborhoods out of the economic downturn.
Miami Today reports that 98.9 percent of Florida's employers are small businesses, and the large share of job growth created in Miami-Dade County has been because of these entrepreneurs.
The nationwide average small business job growth was 0.3 percent in December 2011, according to the Intuit Small Business Employment Index. In that month, 55,000 jobs were created through small ventures.
Small business job growth has also been particularly high in Arizona, the Phoenix Business Journal reports, where employment grew 0.6 percent in December.
